World Mental Health Day 2019 Theme – Suicide Prevention

Every year, 10th October is celebrated worldwide as World Mental Health Day. It is an initiative taken by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to spread awareness about the importance of mental health in ensuring overall well-being of an individual. To mark the event, we at AKGsOVIHAMS are offering 50% concession on all Psychological Services like – psychological consultation, psychotherapy, counselling and psychological assessment from 7th – 12th October, 2019 (*Strictly by appointment).

The theme for this year is Suicide Prevention.

According to the WHO, every 40 seconds someone loses their life to suicide. A report released by the WHO stated India’s suicide rate at 16.5 suicides per 1,00,000 people; the highest in the South-East Asian region. It was the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds, claiming 200,000 lives in 2016, topped only by road injury. It is a grave situation and we need to do a lot more on that front. So this World Mental Health Day let us all make an effort to understand how we can be the support when it’s needed the most.

UNDERSTANDING SUICIDE
The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 1 million people die each year from suicide. Suicide is a desperate attempt to escape suffering that has become unbearable. Blinded by feelings of self-loathing, hopelessness, and isolation, a suicidal person can’t see any way of finding relief except through death. Most people who commit suicide don’t want to die—they just want to stop hurting. They wish there was an alternative to committing suicide, but they just can’t see one.

MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT SUICIDE
MYTH: People who talk about suicide won’t really do it.
FACT: Almost everyone who commits or attempts suicide has given some clue or warning. Do not ignore suicide threats. Statements like “you’ll be sorry when I’m dead,” “I can’t see any way out,” — no matter how casually or jokingly said may indicate serious suicidal feelings.

MYTH: Anyone who tries to kill him/herself must be crazy.
FACT: Most suicidal people are not psychotic or insane. They must be upset, grief-stricken, depressed or despairing, but extreme distress and emotional pain are not necessarily signs of mental illness.

MYTH: If a person is determined to kill him/herself, nothing is going to stop them.
FACT: Even the most severely depressed person has mixed feelings about death, wavering until the very last moment between wanting to live and wanting to die. Most suicidal people do not want death; they want the pain to stop. The impulse to end it all, however overpowering, does not last forever.

MYTH: People who commit suicide are people who were unwilling to seek help.
FACT: Studies of suicide victims have shown that more than half had sought medical help in the six months prior to their deaths.

MYTH: Talking about suicide may give someone the idea.
FACT: You don’t give a suicidal person morbid ideas by talking about suicide. The opposite is true — bringing up the subject of suicide and discussing it openly is one of the most helpful things you can do.

WARNING SIGNS OF SUICIDE
Suicide prevention begins with identifying the warning signs and taking them seriously. Most suicidal individuals give warning signs or signals of their intentions. The best way to prevent suicide is to recognize these warning signs and know how to respond if you spot them. If you believe that a friend or family member is suicidal, you can play a role in suicide prevention by pointing out the alternatives, showing that you care, and getting a doctor or psychologist involved. Some of the major warning signs for suicide could be:-
 Talking about suicide or harming oneself; reading about ways to commit suicide or writing poems or stories about death.
 Talking or seeking out lethal weapons like knives, pills, guns, or any other object that could be used in a suicide attempt.
 Expressing strong feelings of hopelessness either verbally or in terms of one’s actions like not engaging in previously exciting and enjoyable activities; having a bleak outlook towards the future; statements like ―Everyone would be better off without me!
 Sudden change in the person’s behaviour and personality; withdrawing from people; drawing out a will or setting things in order; a sudden sense of calm and happiness after being extremely depressed could mean that the person has made a decision to commit suicide.
If you spot any of these signs in your dear ones just talk to them and let the person know that you care. The right words are often not important; if you are concerned your voice and manner will show it.

WHAT TO DO?

It is natural to feel uncomfortable, apprehensive, fearful or even afraid if you are in a situation wherein your loved one, or any other person for that matter is contemplating suicide or is threatening to commit it. But anyone who threatens or is showing other warning signs requires immediate help. Talking to such a person can be extremely difficult for anyone but the most critical intervention in fact is asking the person if he/she is thinking of committing suicide. Asking this question will not plant an idea of actually committing suicide, you cannot make a person suicidal by showing that you care. The very act of approaching and asking this question can give an opportunity to the person to express his/her pent-up feelings and provide relief from the loneliness he/she was feeling.

WHAT TO SAY?

When talking to a person who is suicidal just be yourself. Let the person know that you care and that he/she is not alone. The right words are often unimportant at that moment as love and concern is communicated even through our voice and manners. Some of the ways in which one can start a conversation could be:-

• I have been feeling concerned about you lately.

• Recently, I have noticed some differences in you and wondered how you are doing.

In addition to this, listening to the other person is extremely important. Let him/her express all that he/she is going through. The conversation might seem very negative but the fact that it is taking place is a positive sign. Be sympathetic, accepting, calm and non-judgmental for whatever the other person expresses. Another way to help him/her would be to offer help and hope. Saying something like – “You are not alone, I’m here with you” or “You may not believe it now but the way you’re feeling will change”.

WHAT NOT TO SAY/DO?

Since we are talking about a crisis situation which at times can be overwhelming for some of us, taking the following points into consideration can prove extremely beneficial. While talking to a person who is suicidal, don’t get into an argument; avoid saying such things as “You have so much to live for” or “Your suicide will hurt your family”. The person knows all this; they don’t want to die, they just want to stop hurting. Similarly, don’t give a lecture on the value of life or say that suicide is wrong. It will not serve the purpose of reducing the pain or suffering he/she is experiencing.

In addition to this, it is of essence that you (the helper) do not blame yourself for the situation. You cannot “fix” someone’s depression. Your loved one’s happiness, or the lack of it, is not your responsibility. It takes a lot of courage to help someone who is suicidal. Witnessing a loved one dealing with thoughts about ending his/her own life can stir up many difficult emotions. If you or anyone you know seems suicidal or is having even fleeting suicidal thoughts, it is recommended to consult a mental health professional at the earliest. Suicide is preventable. Even Homoeopathy has proven very beneficial in combatting suicidal thoughts.

MND-patients-find-respite-with-Homoeopathic-Treatment.jpg

Neurological patients get a boost as Homoeopathy provides very effective treatment while dealing with Neurological diseases said Prof. Dr.A.K.Gupta, Director AKGsOVIHAMS Medical Centre (Om Vidya Institute of Homoeopathy and Allied Medical Sciences) in a recently held Seminar in Hotel Ronald Inn Faridabad. Seminar was organised by the Homoeopathic Doctors Association of Faridabad and Nirmal Foundation.

The Full day Homoeopathic Seminar started with the Garlanding of the portrait of Dr.Hahnemann, founder of Homoeopathy and lightening the lamp by Dr. A.K. Aggarwal, President Dr.Simran Kaur,Gen.Secy; Dr. M.M. Aggarwal, Dr Dilip Aggarwal, Dr Sanjiv Sharma, Dr Pooja Grover and Dr. Lalit Aggarwal.

First session was addressed by Dr. Kapil K Sharma from Bijnor. He spoke on the “Use of Boenninghausen’s Repertory & Applied Materia Medica in Homoeopathic Practice”. He gave illustrious insight of using the Repertory and also shared tips .

Prof. Dr.A.K.Gupta, Founder-DirectorAKGsOVIHAMS (Om Vidya Institute of Homoeopathy and Allied Medical Sciences) was the speaker of the second session . He spoke on the topic of “Homoeopathic Perspectives in Neurological Diseases” and talked at length about a very serious fast Progressing Degenerative Neurological disease, MND (Motor Neuron Disease). Internationally famous Scientist Steven Hawkins was the longest ever survivor suffering from MND.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) also commonly known in United States as ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is an uncommon degenerative disorder of motor neurones which leads to progressive paralysis of cranial and skeletal muscles. First symptoms may include stumbling, weakened grip, hoarse voice, cramp or muscle wasting. The condition is incurable and leads to death within a few years of diagnosis, generally 1-3 years. Death is most commonly due to respiratory muscle weakness and ventilatory failure.About 90% of cases of MND are “Sporadic”.It is considered to be an Incurable disease where medical science does not have much to offer.

At AKGsOVIHAMS Clinics some encouraging results were obtained with Homoeopathy, which encouraged us to conduct this observational perspective research/study on the efficacy of Homoeopathic treatment in management of cases of MND said Dr.A.K.Gupta. More than 500 cases of MND have been treated at AKGsOVIHAMS Medical Centre with very encouraging results where the progression of fast degeneration has been slowed down, checked also with improvement in the associated symptoms, which also is a big achievement though not claimed to be cured said Prof. Dr. A. K. Gupta.

Apart from many cases Dr.Gupta presented a Case with Videos of the patient of MND where patient has been restored to health whereas he was given a life expectancy for hardly a year or so in 2010 and the patient is Alive and healthy till date. Almost cured even after 9 years today where he came with marked symptoms of Difficulty in Speaking, Choking, Persistent Coughing, Difficulty in walking, getting up and Fasciculations all over the body.

This patient had been to prestigious G.B. Pant Hospital in Delhi where he was diagnosed with MND and was told that the life expectancy would not be more than 1 to 2 years at maximum. Though he was advised with some medications to continue. Then he came to me for Homoeopathic treatment to explore with having some doubts as he was told that there is no treatment available for his problem by the hospital doctors. After taking up his complete case history the treatment was started.

Within couple of weeks he started responding to treatment and his symptoms which were aggravating day by day stop getting further deterioration and started improving gradually. There was a time when he had lost his voice completely and had to write down to communicate with family, patient regained his voice and now can talk properly which is easily understandable. His fasciculations completely stopped, No more falling tendency. No more choking.

Not only feeling better all over he gained weight also which he was losing earlier. The best part is he was exclusively on Homoeopathic Treatment said Dr.A.K.Gupta happily and proudly and got the applaud from large gathering of delegate doctors . Dr. Gupta cautioned thatPatients should not ignore the occurrence of disease which may present with the symptoms like:-

  • FASCICULATIONS
  • SLURRED SPEECH
  • GENERALISED WEAKNESS
  • DIFFICULTY IN SWALLOWING
  • CHOKING
  • TENDENCY TO FALL
  • EMASCIATION
  • SALIVATION
  • COUGHING
  • SYMPTOMS OF TONGUE
  • DIFFICULTY IN HOLDING NECK
  • DIFFICULTY IN FINE MOVEMENTS

He further said that though there is no specific laboratory test to confirm MND. Investigations like MRI Scans, EMG, NCVs and CPK in the blood are important. Dr.A.K.Gupta, President HMAI Delhi emphasized that Lead, Mercury, Arsenic and Copper also needs to be checked.

Prof. Dr.A.K.Gupta shared a very valuable observation which he made through his patients of Motor Neuron Disease that they are usually Strong headed people who have undergone some kind of Mental Stress due to their intolerance to injustice and been through wrongly understood person. He said this is very important from Homoeopathic point . He mentioned that patients come to AKGsOVIHAMS for treatment from all over the country though sometimes patients are not in a position to come personally for consultation and treatment in that case they avail the Get Online Treatment facility through our website www.ovihams.com.

Seminar was attended by large number of clinicians, academicians , students & researchers from various parts. Dr.A.K.Gupta suggested everyone to share their experiences to help in fight this dreadful disease.

Paper presentation at AHML, 2017 held at Almaty, Kazakhstan

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) – Psychological & Homoeopathic Perspective Presented in XXth International Conference of AHML held at Almaty,Kazakhstan T heme “Homoeopathy Is Evidence Based Medicine”

ADHD mainly comprises of three features – inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.
ADHD is NOT DUE to bad parenting!
Symptoms of Inattention

• Does not listen to or respond at once
• Seems to be in his/her own world at times

Dengue-Update.jpg
20/Jul/2017

Platelet deficiency is not the cause of death in people suffering from Dengue.

According to International guidelines, unless a patient’s platelet count is below 10,000, and there is spontaneous, active bleeding, no platelet transfusion is required. The outbreak of Dengue in the city and Hospital beds are full and families are seen running around in search for platelets for transfusion. However what most people donot realize is that the first line of treatment for Dengue is not platelet transfusion. It, in fact, does more harm than good if used in a patient whose counts are above 10,000.

The primary cause of death in patients suffering from dengue is capillary leakage, which causes blood deficiency in the intravascular compartment, leading to multi-organ failure. At the first instance of plasma leakage from the intravascular compartment to the extravascular compartment, fluid replacement amounting to 20ml per kg body weight per hour must be administered. This must be continued till the difference between the upper and lower blood pressure is over 40mmHg, or the patient passes adequate urine. This is all that is required to treat the patient. Giving unnecessary platelet transfusion can make the patient more unwell.

“While treating dengue patients, physicians should remember the ‘Formula of 20’ i.e. rise in pulse by more than 20; fall of BP by more than 20; difference between lower and upper BP of less than 20 and presence of more than 20 hemorrhagic spots on the arm after a torniquet test suggest a high-risk situation and the person needs immediate medical attention.”

Dengue fever is painful mosquito-borne disease. It is caused by any one of the 4 types of Dengue virus, which is transmitted by the bite of an infected female Aedes aegypti mosquito. Common symptoms of dengue include high fever, runny nose, a mild skin rash, cough, and pain behind the eyes and in the joints. However, some people may develop a red and white patchy skin rash followed by loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, etc. Patients suffering from dengue should seek medical advice, rest and drink plenty of fluids. Paracetamol can be taken to bring down fever and reduce joint pains. However, aspirin or ibuprofen shoul not be taken since they can increase the risk of bleeding.

The risk of complications is in less than 1% of dengue cases and, if warning signals are known to the public, all deaths from dengue can be avoided. DENGUE NS1 – Best test is NS1. Cannot be false positive. Is + from day 1 to 7 ideally. If on day 1 is -ve, repeat it next day. Always ask for ELISA based NS1 tests as card tests are misleading.

Value of IgG and IgM dengue – In a patient with reduced platelets and looking sick on day 3 or 4 of illness, a very high titre of IgG with borderline rise in IgM signifies secondary dengue. These patients are more prone to complications. In primary dengue IgG becomes + at end of 7 days, while IgM is + after day 4.

Immature Platelet Fraction/ IPF – A very useful test in Dengue for patients with Thrombocytopenia. If IPF in such a patient is >10%, despite a paltelet count of 20,000 he is out of danger and platelets will rise in 24hrs. If it is 6%, repeat the same next day. Now if IPF has increased to 8% his platelets will certainly increase in 48hrs. If it is less than 5%, then his bone marrow will not respond for 3-4 days and may be a likely candidate for platelet transfusion. Better to do an IPF even with borderline low platelet count.

A low Mean Platelet Volume / MPV means platelets are functionally inefficient and such patients need more attention.

Some of the Homoeopathic medicines like Eupatorium Perf., Gelsemium, Carica Papaya, Bryonia Alba, Tinospora Cordifolia, Rhus Tox., Crotalus Horridus, Tri-Nitro Toluene, etc. have been found to be extremely effective depending upon the stage of Dengue fever.

Change your Lifestyle Before Diabetes Changes you

Change Your Lifestyle Before Daibetes Changes You Homoeopathy & Exercise Can Add Years To Life of Diabetics Experts at HMAI Delhi CME
In continuation of ongoing series of Endocrinology and Homoeopathty of the Homoeopathic Medical Association of India (HMAI), Delhi State held the latest CME on Diabetes and Homoeopathic Approach amongst the large gathering of Homoeopathic doctors at Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital.
Dr.A.K. Gupta, President HMAI Delhi introduced noted Diabetologist , Guinness Book of World Record holder ,Chairman Delhi Diabetes Research Centre , Dr.A.K.Jhingan , Dr. Rahul Tiwari, Homoeopathic Consultant & Dr.Saurav Arora,Founder Initiative to Promote Research in Homoeopathy as speakers for the deliberations on Diabetes & Homoeopathy.
Diabetes is prevalent disease. India has nearly 67 million diabetic patients . Diabetes is a disorder in the utilization of nutrients due to lack of Insulin which results in raised Glucose levels and may lead to vascular complications in long run like Heart disease, Stroke , Blindness, Kidney failure & Gangrene, etc. World over, India ranks 2nd in number of people with diabetes said Dr. Gupta, Founder Director AKGsOVIHAMS (Om Vidya Institute of Homoeopathy and Allied Medical Sciences). He informed that Diabetes is a disease which can be tackled effectively by creating Awareness, Modification in Lifestyle, Proper Dietry Regulation, Management , Exercise and off course medication. He emphasised that it has been seen that Patients those who were on Anti diabetic treatment for many years and now not responding to the treatment and change for more potent or combination of medicines are required at that stage patients started homoeopathic treatment and after some time they started responding to same old milder medication.

Estimated global prevalence of diabetes – In year 2000 it was 151 Million , in 2014 it was 387 Million and in 2035 it is expected to be 592 Million

DIABETES COMPLICATIONS
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) -21.4%
Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)- 6.3%
Retinopathy – 17.6%
Nephropathy – 2.2%
Neuropathy – 26.1%
Dr.Jhingan described that diabetes mellitus is of Type I & Type II .
Type 1 diabetes results from the body’s failure to produce insulin, and presently requires the person to inject insulin. The symptoms are Frequent urination, Unusual Thirst, Excessive Hunger ,Unusual weight Loss and Extreme Fatigue and Irritability.
Type 2 diabetes results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. Patients have the Symptoms as Frequent Infections ,Blurred Vision, Cuts/bruises that are Slow to Heal, Tingling/Numbness in the hands/feet , Recurring Skin, Gum, or Bladder infections.
Type 2 diabetes management involves:
Glycemic control , Lipid management, Blood pressure control, Weight management
and Management of other cardiovascular risks

For Prevention of Diabetes Lifestyle Modifications are Recommended eg .Weight loss
Regular physical activity & Dietary changes to promote weight loss
– More fiber, fruits, and vegetables , – Less “processed” food ,- Smaller portions , – Fewer high-caloric/high-dense foods.
• How can you reduce your risk? Get physically active
• Healthy eating
• Weight management
• Adopt healthy habits
• Regular check-ups
• Manage Stress
Lose weight Gain life . Eat Right And Exercise
If overweight, losing 5-10% of body weight can reduce risks for Type 2 diabetes
Safely lose weight with: Healthy eating & Physical activity
Adopt healthy habits
• No tobacco
• Get plenty of sleep
• Limit Alcohol intake
Regular Check-ups
• See your doctor at least once a year for a complete check-up
• Age/gender appropriate screenings
• Regular Dental & Eye Check ups
Manage stress
Take time to relax
Pace yourself and your activities
Get enough sleep
Make time for fun
Regular physical activity
Yoga & Meditation
• While yoga cannot cure diabetes, it can complement the life style changes necessary to keep diabetic symptoms in check.
• It makes you feel more in control of your health and well being.
• Yoga exercises gently tone up and shape the body, improve posture and flexibility.
Most yoga exercises have a preformed effect on improving blood circulation, especially to extremities.
• A yoga exercise helps keep the blood vessels elastic and when combined with relaxation training, reduces high blood pressure.
• By releasing muscle tension and teaching you how to relax at will, yoga relaxation techniques help reduce the harmful effects of physical and mental stress.
• Daily practice of meditation shows you a quiet, restful, stable part of yourself that supports everything you do.
Yoga also teaches us how to draw on these inner resources for the strength and health.
Hypoglycemia –
When the Blood sugar level goes Lower than the minimal normal range.
It can be a dangerous condition . Which can happen in people with diabetes who take medicines that increases Insulin levels in the body. Taking to much medication , skipping meals eating less than normal , or exercising more than usual can lead to low blood sugar for these individuals.when Sugar level goes down to 30-40.
Symptoms – Blurred vision, Rapid Heartbeat, Sudden Nervousness, Profound unexplained weakness, Dizziness, sweating ,Unconsciousness, Seizure or coma.
Rule of 15 – Give 15 gms of easily digestible carbohydrates eg . 1 tablespoon of Honey.
Diabetes “ABCs”
A for A1C Test
B for Blood Pressure
C for Cholesterol
Helping patients manage their “ABCs” will help lower their risk of having a heart attack, a stroke, or other complications
(eye disease, kidney disease, nerve damage)

RESEARCH CAPSULE BY HMAI DELHI STATE (First Ever)
Dr.A.K. Gupta President HMAI Delhi introduced the RESEARCH CAPSULE for the first time in CME and said that it would be a regular feature in future and apprise about the Research in Homoeopathy all around.
Dr.Saurav Arora, Founder Initiative to Promote Research in Homoeopathy threw light upon t the various research and studies conducted pertaining to Diabetes.
1. Effect of homoepathic preparation of syzygium jambolanum and cephalandra indica on gastrocnemius muscle of high fat and high fructose – induced type 2 diabetic rats. Homeopathic preparations of S. jambolanum and C. indica in mother tincture, 6c and 30c were used to examine the molecular mechanism of antidiabetic effects in the skeletal muscle of rats with high fat and fructose-induced type-2 diabetes mellitus. • After 30 days treatment, fasting blood glucose, serum insulin and insulin signaling molecules in the skeletal muscle (gastrocnemius) were measured • In the present study homeopathic preparations of S. jambolanum and C. indica, including ultramolecular dilutions exhibit antidiabetic effects, improving insulin action through activation of insulin signaling molecules in skeletal muscle of type-2 diabetic rats. Homeopathy 2013; 102(3): 160–71 http://www.homeopathyjournal.net/article/S1475-4916(13)00036-2/abstract
2. Ameliorating effect of mother tincture of syzygium jambolanum on carbohydrates and lipid metabolic disorder in streptozotocin – induced diabetic rat: homoeopathic remedy. An attempt was made to investigate the remedial effect of Szygium jambolanum on carbohydrate and lipid metabolic disorders on streptozotocin induced diabetic rat. • S jambolanum significantly decreased fasting blood glucose levels and improved carbohydrate metabolic key enzyme activities in hepatic tissue i.e., hexokinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphatase in diabetic rats. • Alongside, serum lipid profile biomarkers (TG, total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL and HDL were significantly ameliorated in homeopathic drug supplemented diabetic animals. • The results of the present study indicate the promising role of homeopathy on induced diabetic, carbohydrate and lipid metabolic changes in mice. Journal of Natural Science, Biology and Medicine 2013; 4(1): 68–73 Full Text Link: http://bit.ly/2jMZrYt
3. Syzygium jambolanum and cephalandra indica homeopathic preparation inhibits albumin glycation and protect erythrocytes: an in vitro study. The study investigated the antiglycation potential of Syzygium jambolanum (Sj Q, 30c, 200c), Cephalandra indica (Ci ф, 30 c, 200c) in human erythrocytes. • Sj Q inhibited glycation, structural modifications except amino group protection. • Sj preparations showed notable reduction of glycation, structural modifications. • All homeopathic preparations showed significant erythrocyte protection. • Sj Q preparation exhibited antiglycation and cell protection ability. Homeopathy 2015; 104(3): 197–204 http://www.homeopathyjournal.net/article/S1475-4916(15)00012-0/abstract
4. A prospective multi-centric open clinical trial of homeopathy in diabetic distal symmetry polyneuropathy A prospective, multi-centre, observational study where 247 patients were followed. Lyco, Phos and Sulph were most commonly used. This study suggests homeopathic medicines may be effective in managing the symptoms of diabetic polyneuropathy patients. Further studies should be controlled and include the Quality of life (QOL) assessment. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S147549161300009X
5. Observational study of homeopathic and conventional therapies in patients with diabetic polyneuropathy. Complementary homeopathic therapy of diabetic neuropathy was feasible and promising effects in symptom scores and cost savings were observed. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S147549160800129X
6. Role of complementary medicine in type 1 DM in two swiss centres Insulin replacement is the only effective treatment of type 1 Diabetes mellitus (T1DM). • In this study the author assessed by questionnaire that out of 342 patients with T1DM, 48 (14%; 13.4% adult, 18.5% paediatric; 20 male, 28 female) used complementary medicine (CM) in addition to their insulin therapy. • The purpose of the use of CM was to improve general well-being, ameliorate glucose homeostasis, reduce blood glucose levels as well as insulin doses, improve physical fitness, reduce the frequency of hypoglycaemia, and control appetite. • The modalities most frequently used are cinnamon, homeopathy, magnesium and special beverages (mainly teas). • Thus, good collaboration between health care professionals will allow optimal patient care. Praxis (Bern 1994). 2009 Sep 9;98(18):1001-5. http://bit.ly/2l7a1KF
7. Use of complementary and alternative medicine in children with type 1 DM – prevalence, patterns of use and costs. A self-completed anonymous questionnaire was administered to parents of children with type 1 diabetes in four pediatric diabetes centers in Germany (Leipzig, Berlin, Stuttgart, and Bonn). • Two hundred and twenty eight (65.9%) of 346 families completed the survey. • Mean age of the diabetic patients was 11.9 +/- 3.8 yr. • The conclusion was that the use of CAM in children with type 1 diabetes is less common than that documented for adults. Parents using CAM do not question the need for insulin. When using CAM, improved well-being and quality of life are important considerations where CAM can have a role. Pediatr Diabetes. 2008 Jun;9(3 Pt 1):228-35. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18331412

Journal of Evidence Based Complimentary & Alternative Medicine 2156587215593656 first published on July 7 , 2015 273 diabetics and 355 non diabetic subjects were interview in this cross sectional survey. Lack of insulin, frequent urination, hypertension, and poor wound healing were identified most frequently as the cause, symptom, association, and complications. A total of 35.5% to 46.5% said that diabetes was preventable; 14.1% to 31.9% knew that diabetes was controllable rather than curable. Consumption of planned diet, avoiding sugar, and testing blood sugar were the most frequently identified components of healthy lifestyle, diabetic diet, and diagnostic domain.
While summing up Dr.A.K.Gupta, President HMAI Delhi & Director AKGsOVIHAMS said that Daibetes is a controllable disease. Patients are advised not self medicate with medications instead must be taken under the guidance of qualified homoeopathic doctor. All experts suggested Change Lifestyle Before Diabetes Changes you and integrated treatment with Homoeopathy and Exercise can add years to the lives of diabetics.
