In a remarkable interview published in Science magazine of December 24, 2010, (1) Professor Luc Montagnier, has expressed support for the often maligned and misunderstood medical specialty of homeopathic medicine. Especially, principle of Dynamisation or serial dilution to achieve potency of medicine.
Although homeopathy has persisted for 200+ years throughout the world and has been theleading alternative treatment method used by physicians in Europe and India, (2) most conventional physicians and scientists have expressed skepticism about its efficacy due to the extremely small doses of medicines used.
Dr. Luc Montagnier, the French virologist who won the Nobel Prize in 2008 for discovering the AIDS virus, has surprised the scientific community with his strong support for homeopathic medicine. Montagnier’s research (and other of many of his colleagues) has verified that electromagnetic signals of the original medicine remains in the water and has dramatic biological effects.
Montagnier’s new research is investigating the electromagnetic waves that he says emanate from the highly diluted DNA of various pathogens. Montagnier asserts, “What we have found is that DNA produces structural changes in water, which persist at very high dilutions, and which lead to resonant electromagnetic signals that we can measure. Not all DNA produces signals that we can detect with our device. The high-intensity signals come from bacterial and viral DNA.”
Montagnier’s new research evokes memories one of the most sensational stories in French science, often referred to as the ‘Benveniste affair’ A highly respected immunologist Dr. Jacques Benveniste., who died in 2004, conducted a study which was replicated in three other university laboratories and that was published in Nature(19). Benveniste and other researchers used extremely diluted doses of substances that created an effect on a type of white blood cell called basophils.
Although Benveniste’s work was supposedly debunked, (20) Montagnier considers Benveniste a “modern Galileo” who was far ahead of his day and time and who was attacked for investigating a medical and scientific subject that orthodoxy had mistakenly overlooked and even demonized. A related topic is the phenomenon, claimed by Jacques Benveniste’s colleague Yolène Thomas and by others to be well established experimentally, known as “memory of water.”
If valid (high dilution nano structure memory), this would be of greater significance than homeopathy itself, and it attests to the limited vision of the modern scientific community that, far from hastening to test such claims, the only response has been to dismiss them out of hand. (21) comments Brian David Josephson(Nobel Prize in 1973), who is an emeritus professor of Cambridge University in England, he was also asked by New Scientist editors how he became an advocate of unconventional ideas. He responded: I went to a conference where the French immunologist Jacques Benveniste was talking for the first time about his discovery that water has a ‘memory’ of compounds that were once dissolved in it — which might explain how homeopathy works. His findings provoked irrationally strong reactions from scientists, and I was struck by how badly he was treated. (22) Josephson went on to describe how many scientists today suffer from “pathological disbelief;” that is, they maintain an unscientific attitude that is embodied by the statement “even if it were true I wouldn’t believe it.“
Montagnier: “I can’t say that homeopathy is right in everything. What I can say now is that the high dilutions are right. High dilutions of something are not nothing. They are water structures which mimic the original molecules. I am told that some people have reproduced Benveniste’s results, but they are afraid to publish it because of the intellectual terror from people who don’t understand it.”

It was inaugurated on 8th Aug.1999 by the then Minister of Women & Children Welfare, Smt. Krishna Tirath. The Institute in a very short span has created a place for itself in the hearts of the people. Dr. Gupta felt that none of the system of medicine is complete in its own, though each has its own merits with limitations hence OVIHAMS caters to the need of the hour, i.e. to provide Integrated Medical Services to the needy patients. Patient’s welfare is the Sole Aim at AKGsOVIHAMS Medical Centre with a Holistic approach.
A testimony to the work and progress that AKGsOVIHAMS has made in the last 18 years was that the centre was the “Winner of the prestigious Global Healthcare Excellence Award in 2013 for the Best Homoeopathic centre in Delhi.”
Chief Guest Shri K. G. Suresh, Director General IIMC, talked about the present trend of Alternative system of medicine gaining popularity, especially as AYUSH ministry has come into existence. On the auspicious occasion of the 22nd Anniversary of AKGsOVIHAMS, we would like to express our gratitude to all the founding members, doctors, staff and well-wishers for their support and efforts in serving the humanity. Om-Vidya Institute of Homoeopathy and Allied Medical Sciences (OVIHAMS) is the brainchild of internationally renowned Homoeopathic physician Dr. A. K. Gupta, MD (Hom.) who has been a strong proponent of “Integrated Approach to Medical Services” for the welfare of patients. The concept of OVIHAMS, at the time of its inception in 1999, was well-appreciated by the then Health Minister of State which eventually led to the formation of the AYUSH Ministry as well. Over the years, Dr. Gupta has strongly voiced his support for the holistic approach to medical care as he firmly believes that every system of medicine has something to offer with its strengths and limitations, and an integrated approach can provide the best treatment options for patients’ treatment and recovery. Long before it was proposed in the parliament, Dr. Gupta had been pushing for common syllabus in medical colleges. This would ensure that the budding doctors come into the mainstream well-versed with different treatment options and thus can take an informed decision about the treatment approach best suited for a particular case. It is only through inclusion that the all resources can be best utilised to their fullest potential; exclusion only leads to ugly power dynamics and compartmentalisation at the cost of patients’ welfare. At AKGsOVIHAMS, patients were also given a “Medical ID card” which carried their basic medical information which can be extremely vital in times of emergencies. Similar concept has now been adopted by the Ministry of Health, Govt. of India as they intend to provide similar medical cards to all citizens of India. Today, Dr. Gupta feels happy to see some of his ideas taking shape at the national level and is hopeful that the present and future generations of doctors would take pride in serving the humanity with sincerity, inclusivity and a patient-first approach rather than resorting to infighting about which system of medicine is superior. Last but not the least, the entire team of AKGsOVIHAMS expresses its gratitude to all the patients who have sought treatment with us and bestowed their trust in us. We hope to serve you well to the best of our professional abilities for many more years. THANK YOU! Regards Team AKGsOVIHAMS

Mrs. Dharitri Dutta Gupta, Clinical Psychologist at AKGsOVIHAMS, sums up this challenging year with this beautiful article and encourages us to hold on to HOPE.
In a few days’ time, the year 2020 will draw to a close. The current year has been one of the most difficult years for all of us. 2020 started with reports of violence, deaths, mobs vandalizing public and private properties amidst the nationwide protest on the Citizenship Amendment Bill. While we were still trying to recover and make sense of this chaos, we were in the grip of the worst pandemic the world had ever seen- the COVID 19. Needless to say, how the pandemic has already claimed the lives of lakhs of people and affected the health of millions in India alone. Not only the pandemic, we, as a nation also mourned over the deaths of many of our favourite celebrities, such as Irrfan Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Saroj Khan, Rishi Kapoor to name just a few. And currently, despite the intense cold conditions, lakhs of farmers ha ve been protesting against Government’s Farm Laws at various Delhi borders for days, risking their health and work.
The pandemic has introduced us to a strange way of living. Phrases like Lockdown, Quarantine, Social Distancing that were rarely heard, are everyday vocabulary now. We cannot think of stepping out of the house without face masks, sanitizers or frequent hand sanitization routines. Social distancing has replaced hugs/handshakes with the simple gestures of nodding/Namaste. Visits to relatives/friends/neighbours have been reduced to the minimal. With schools remaining shut, virtual classes are the only mode of learning left for the students. The new normal of “Work from Home” has confined office goers to their homes, working longer hours than before with minimal social interactions. People are still trying to strike a balance between their lives and livelihood.
The unforeseen pandemic has affected us not just at an individual level but also the society at large. The discriminatory practices in the society saw a new high. Not only the patients and their family members, our frontline workers, like the health care professionals, police, sanitary workers etc. are experiencing stigma, discrimination and severe mental/physical harassment too. The uncertain nature of virus, rapid spread of misleading information, rumours, sensationalized news in the media created severe anxiety and panic in the public. The Global economic crisis has hit most of us badly. It has brought many companies to a complete standstill. A large number of people are being laid off from their jobs, while others are working at a reduced salary/pay-cut. The migrant and daily wage labours are the worst hit, where they are still struggling to have their basic needs met. During the most crucial period of development, children are glued to the screen whole day to attend online classes. Their peer interactions, outdoor play activities have come to a minimal. On the other hand, the vulnerability of the elderly population for developing physical as well as psychological concerns have risen manifolds.
The disruptions in the regular way of living, along with the real fear of getting infected with virus have led to an upsurge of mental health concerns all over the world. Bereavement, isolation, loss of income, uncertainty and fear are triggering mental health conditions or exacerbating existing ones. Reportedly, cases of depression, anxiety, OCD, Substance abuse, suicide, domestic violence ar e on a rise, as with the number of people seeking professional help to deal with a varied mental health concern.
Indeed, a difficult year it has been! Yet we managed to struggle and live. As we know, with every low there’s a high and it is true that even this current pandemic has a silver lining to it. The pandemic allowed us the opportunity to have back the real, genuine moments with our family and loved ones, which we somewhere lost in the otherwise fast-paced busy life of ours. As life slowed down, we tried finding new ways to stay connected or to reconnect with the people who matter to us. On an individual level, we started to value our own selves as well as the lives of others and offer help as much possible. Many prominent figures came forward to serve those in need with whatever resources they have. Time at home gave us the chance to introspect and also to explore and enhance the new/hidden skills that we have.
With limited outside resources available, people of all ages, even in the remote areas had to rely on the internet and online resources available. People tried to gain as much possible from the digital platform. The educational institutions came out with innovative ways to ensure that the students do not miss out on their learning. With the maximum learning happening online, the parents could also remain more updated about their ward’s leaning experience. The “work from home” practice has proven to be more productive in terms of work efficacy. In addition, it is also likely to reduce the cost of expensive infrastructures, huge electricity consumptions in the work places, reduction in the traffic on the roads and the resulting air pollution. During this period, with the blessing of the vast online platform available, we also saw the many home-based entrepreneurs emerging and blooming in different areas.
With regard to health, COVID-19 popularized the practice of overall hygiene maintenance like never before. Proper sanitization when we come home from outside, washing hands before eating, covering our mouth while coughing, keeping a sanitizer handy are some of the healthy practices we all developed for good. Prevention is better than cure was indeed put into practice.
Lastly, with the world-wide lockdown, Nature also got the much-needed opportunity to hit the reboot button and reclaim the space to heal itself. There was a significant reduction in the overall levels of pollution: water, noise, especially the air. While humans were restricted to their homes, animals and birds came out to reclaim their territories. The beaches were cleaner, and the surface water was clearer. Hopefully, these beautiful transformations in the nature would be an eye-opener to the mankind, and we would learn to respect the nature more than before.
COVID-19 has been a long battle. Yet we devised new ways of connecting, learning and continuing with our lives in spite of the hurdles. Fortunately, as we come closer to the end of the year, the statistics of daily infections and deaths are lowering down. With the gradual process of unlock at present, we are again moving towards normalcy. With the rigorous efforts of the scientists, the vaccines made have shown efficacious results too and are likely to be made available to the public v ery soon. The vaccines, advanced understanding of the virus, our collective efforts and lessons learned during this period make us hold onto our belief for a brighter future. As the famous quote from the classic movie Shawshank Redemption (1994) goes, “Hope is a good thing, may be the best of the things. And good thing never dies”, let’s continue to be hopeful and be ready to welcome 2021 with new spirits and enthusiasm!

AYUSH ADVISORY ON PREVENTION AND CURE
Today Corona Virus has become the headline News when around 179 deaths are reported in China. One case has been found Positive and confirmed in Kerala of a Medical student who came from Wuhan City of China.
Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that are common among animals. In rare cases, they can be transmitted from animals to humans. This year it’s named as Wuhan Corona virus, as starting from Wuhan City in China. MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) virus, was first reported in the Middle East in 2012. Three to four out of every 10 patients infected with MERS died.
SYMPTOMS
• Mild to moderate upper respiratory tract symptoms like common cold, runny nose, cough, sore throat.
• Headache and maybe a fever, which can last for a couple of days.
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, also known as SARS, is the other coronavirus that can cause more severe symptoms (Pneumonia, Shortness of breath). In pregnant women, the more severe versions of MERS and SARS coronaviruses can be serious. SARS-associated illnesses were linked to cases of spontaneous abortion, maternal death and critical maternal illness.
Causes more severe disease in older people.
SPREAD
Viruses can spread from human contact with animals.
When it comes to human-to-human transmission of the viruses, contact with the infected person’s secretions. Caregivers can sometimes be exposed by handling a patient’s waste.
TREATMENT
• There is no specific treatment. Most of the time, symptoms will go away on their own.
• Drink plenty of fluids, get rest and sleep as much as possible.
• Symptomatic treatment.
“Patients became infected after their relatives travelled to Wuhan (the source of the outbreak) and became infected,” Zhong said.
Officials in China are racing to contain a deadly new strain of virus that has infected more than 1,000 people and left more than three dozen dead. Chinese officials have blocked all transportation in and out of the city of Wuhan, where the outbreak of the “2019 novel coronavirus” or “2019-nCoV” originated. At least 12 nearby cities were facing similar lockdowns on Friday, the day before China’s Lunar New Year is celebrated.
Two cases have been confirmed in the United States. U.S. health officials confirmed the first case on Tuesday, involving a man in his 30s who had recently travelled from Wuhan, China, to Seattle. The second case was confirmed Friday in a woman in her 60s in Chicago, who had also recently travelled from Wuhan. The latest death, confirmed on Tuesday, was that of an 89-year-old man who was hospitalized on January 17. The expert added that several health workers had also been infected. However, Zhong said it only took two weeks to identify the new virus and that a situation such as the one that occurred during 2003’s Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic was unlikely. SARS caused 813 deaths worldwide, 646 of which were in China.
The number of confirmed infections on Tuesday morning in China was down to 198, after 25 patients recovered. Thirty-five are in serious condition, while nine are critical. Two other cases have also been confirmed in Thailand, one in South Korea and one in Japan. Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday that he expected the virus to be contained “with determination”, while Prime Minister Li Keqiang announced the creation of a group dedicated to fighting the illness.
What is Coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are types of viruses that typically affect the respiratory tract of mammals, including humans. They are associated with the common cold, pneumonia, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and can also affect the gut.
A coronavirus was first isolated in 1937 from an infectious bronchitis virus in birds that has the ability to seriously devastate poultry stocks. These viruses are responsible for between 15 and 30 percent of common colds. Over the last 70 years, scientists have found that coronaviruses can infect mice, rats, dogs, cats, turkeys, horses, pigs, and cattle.
This article will focus on the different types of human coronaviruses, their symptoms, how they are transmitted, and two particularly dangerous diseases that can be caused by coronaviruses: SARS and MERS.
Fast facts on coronaviruses
• There is no cure for the common cold in convention treatment.
• A coronavirus causes both SARS and MERS.
• Coronaviruses infect many different species.
• There are six known human coronaviruses.
• SARS spread from China to cause infection in 37 countries, killing 774
people.
What are coronaviruses?
Human coronaviruses (HCoV) were first identified in the 1960s in the noses of patients with the common cold. Two human coronaviruses are responsible for a large proportion of common colds OC43 and 229E. Coronaviruses were given their name based on the crown-like projections on their surfaces. Corona; in Latin means halo or crown. Among humans, infection most often occurs during the winter months as well as early spring. It is not uncommon for a person to become ill with a cold that is caused by a coronavirus and then catch it again about four months later. This is because coronavirus antibodies do not last for a very long time. Also, the antibodies for one strain of coronavirus may be useless against other strains.
Symptoms
Cold- or flu-like symptoms usually set in from two to four days after coronavirus infection, and they are typically mild.
Symptoms include:
• Sneezing
• Runny nose
• Fatigue
• Cough
• In rare cases, Fever
• Sore throat
• Exacerbated asthma
Human coronaviruses cannot be cultivated in the laboratory easily, unlike the rhinovirus, another cause of the common cold. There is no cure, so treatments include taking care of yourself and over-the-counter (OTC) medication:
• Rest and avoid overexertion.
• Drink enough water.
• Avoid smoking and smoky areas.
• Use a clean humidifier or cool mist vaporizer.
The virus responsible can be diagnosed by taking a sample of respiratory fluids, such as mucus from the nose, or blood.
Transmission
Contagious diseases can spread through coughing without covering the mouth. There has not been a great deal of research on how a human coronavirus spreads from one person to the next. However, it is believed that the viruses transmit using secreted fluid from the respiratory system. Coronaviruses can spread in the following ways:
• Coughing and sneezing without covering the mouth can disperse droplets
into the air, spreading the virus.
• Touching or shaking hands with a person that has the virus can pass the
virus from one person to another.
• Making contact with a surface or object that has the virus and then touching
your nose, eyes, or mouth.
• On rare occasions, a coronavirus may spread through contact with faeces.
To prevent transmission, be sure to stay at home and rest while experiencing symptoms and avoid close contact with other people. Covering the mouth and nose with a tissue or handkerchief while coughing or sneezing can also help prevent the spread of a coronavirus. Be sure to dispose of any used tissues and maintain hygiene around the home.
SARS
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) was a contagious disease caused by the SARS-CoV coronavirus. It typically led to a life-threatening form of pneumonia. SARS-CoV is unique. It can infect both the upper and lower respiratory tract and can also cause gastroenteritis. The symptoms of SARS develop over the course of a week and start with a fever. Early on in the condition, people develop flu-like symptoms, such as:
• Dry coughing
• Chills
• Diarrhoea
• Breathlessness
• Aches
Pneumonia, a severe lung infection, may develop afterward. At its most advanced stage, SARS causes failure of the lungs, heart, or liver.
AYUSH Ministry advisory about corona
At the insistance of Ministry of AYUSH, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy(CCRH) discussed the ways and means of prevention of Coronavirus infection through Homoeopathy in 64th meeting of its Scientific Advisory Board on 28th January 2020. The Group of Experts inter-alia has recommended that homoeopathy medicine Arsenicum album30 could be taken as prophylactic medicine against Coronavirus infections, which has also been advised for prevention of ILI. It has recommended one doze of Arsenicum album 30, daily in empty stomach for three days. The dose should be repeated after one month by following the same schedule in case Coronavirus infections prevail in the community. The Expert Group has further suggested that general hygienic measures for prevention of air-borne infections suggested by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, for prevention of the disease should also be followed by the public.
Corona virus – Havoc or Hype ?
It’s important to have better Immunity to fight out such kind of infections. So all efforts should be made to boost the immunity which is being done by Homoeopathy and following a healthy life style. There is no need to panic, take precautions and if needed get it treated. The remedy for the patient is worked out according to the Individual Patients Symptoms and his/her constitution.
Homoeopathy Ensures Health Safely.

Dr. A. K. Gupta presented an extensive study of 378 cases of MND patients at the IISF, 2019.
Homoeopathic treatment emerges out to be more effective treatment in providing Respite to the patients suffering from Motor Neuron Disease according to the Research Study presented in the recently held Health Research Conclave of 5th India International Science Festival (IISF, 2019) in Kolkata. It was inaugurated by Video address by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narender Modi ji. Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Health and Family welfare, Minister of Earth Science Dr. Harsh Vardhan ji, Dr. Nakul Prashar, Director Vigyan Prasar along with a large number of Scientists, Doctors and young Students from all over India and Officials and State Ministers from various countries were present at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
MND (Motor Neuron Disease) a fast progressive degenerative disorder which leads to progressive paralysis and eventual death, according to the Scientific paper and study presented by Prof. Dr. A. K. Gupta in the Health Research Conclave of IISF-2019.
MND (Motor Neuron Disease) a fast progressive degenerative disorder which leads to progressive paralysis and eventual death, according to the Scientific paper and study presented by Prof. Dr. A. K. Gupta in the Health Research Conclave of IISF-2019.
MND or ALS, occurs when specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurons stop working properly also known as neurodegeneration. As the condition progresses, people with motor neuron disease find some or all of these activities increasingly difficult. Eventually, they may become impossible.
Progression of symptoms is very common early symptoms include:
1. Weakened grip, which can cause difficulty picking up or holding objects.
2. Weakness at the shoulder that makes lifting the arm difficult
3. Difficulty in getting up and walking. Foot drop caused by weak ankle muscles
4. Dragging of the leg
5. Slurred speech (dysarthria)
6. Cough with Breathlessness.
7. Wasting of Muscles
8. Fasciculations
9. Imbalance, tendency to fall.
10. Difficulty in holding the Neck etc.
The condition is not usually painful.
As damage progresses, symptoms spread to other parts of the body and the condition becomes more debilitating.
Eventually, a person with motor neuron disease may be unable to move. Communicating, swallowing and breathing may also become very difficult and becomes totally like paralyzed and become dependent on others.Though the Intellect of the patient remains intact.
