Gout

It is a metabolic disease that affects both males and females. Gout is one of the types of arthritis, where the joint inflammation, beginning in the great toe in many cases, occurs due to a metabolic dysfunction. There is a deposition of Uric acid in and around the joint causing severe painfulness, swelling, and restricted mobility of the affected joint.

Causes

Hyperuricemia is the underlying cause of gout. This can occur for a number of reasons, including diet, genetic predisposition, or under-excretion of urate, the salts of uric acid. Renal under-excretion of uric acid is the primary cause of hyperuricemia in about 90% of cases, while overproduction is the cause in less than 10%. About 10% of people with hyperuricemia develop gout at some point in their lifetimes.

Symptoms

Primarily Great toe is a commonly affected joint; however, Gout may affect elbows, knees or small joints later by chronic deforming arthritis. The affected joints are red, swollen, and painful to touch with characteristic aggravation at night. The urine is offensive and pale-yellow in colour.

Manage

Avoid all dietary items rich in urates like tomatoes, spinach, lemon, etc. Drink plenty of water and don't hold your urine
