Fatty Liver

  • Fatty liver disease is a condition in which fat builds up in the liver. There are two main types: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) Alcoholic fatty liver disease, also called alcoholic steatohepatitis.
  • It is a condition also called as Hepatosteatosis.
  • It includes increased build up of fat in the liver.

  • One of the causes may be excess intake of alcohol in which case it is called alcoholic fatty liver disease.
  • It can also occur in people not taking alcohol and is then called Non alcoholic fatty liver disease.
  • Another risk factor is Diabetes Mellitus.
  • Obesity
  • Having high level of fat (Triglycerides) in the blood.
  • Metabolic Syndrome
The symptoms are not clear but may include
  • Weight loss
  • Pain in the right upper abdomen
  • Yellowness of skin/face
  • Dark urine
  • Pale stool
  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fluid build up in abdomen (ascites)
  • Oedema in legs/feet
  • In most cases, lifestyle changes are sufficient to lessen the extent of liver damage.
  • Medications may be taken to control other conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension and lower the Triglycerides level.
  • Controlling obesity, alcohol intake are important in stopping advancement to further stages of liver damage like Hepatitis and Liver cirrhosis.
  • Homoeopathic treatment is fruitful in curing the condition if the liver damage is not extensive.
