World Mental Health Week

 Date: 08 Oct 2018 09:00 AM     21

Every year, 10th October is celebrated as the World Mental Health Day to spread awareness about the importance of mental health, promote healthy ways of living, and to reduce the stigma of mental illness still prevalent in our society. It is a very important initiative taken by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as we tend to ignore our mental health which is equally, if not more, important than our physical well-being.

The theme for this year is “Young people and Mental Health in a Changing World”. In today’s fast paced times, young people (children, adolescents and young adults) are facing numerous challenges which have made them even more vulnerable for mental illnesses. Half of all mental illness begins by the age of 14 years, but most cases go undetected and untreated. Depression, suicide, substance abuse, and relationship problems are some of the most significant issues faced by today’s young people. Thus, it is imperative that we take appropriate steps to support our youngsters, build mental resilience from early age, and help them manage and recover from mental illness.
